O2 will be the latest mobile operator to hit the broadband market, and hopes
to launch in spring 2007.
Peter Erskine, O2s chief executive hinted at the plans in an interview with
the Financial Times, but says that it wasn't planning to "land grab" for
customers.
O2 is owned by the Spanish telco Telefonica ,who has already
purchased
LLU provider Be back in June of this year, and provides ADSL2+ connections in 236
exchanges. ADSLguide
has calculated that this equates to a possible 4.5 million potential households,
although it notes that only 2.7 million are under 2km from the exchanges and
therefore get line speeds of 15Mbps or higher.
