Out of the blue today comes an announcement that Telewest are playing their ace card again and increasing users broadband speeds. Its become ritual almost now, that this is done without any price increase (see
NTLs announcement last week). Accordingly, Telewest will continue the trend.
Increasing users speeds up to a potentially whopping 4Mbit!, Telewest have stolen the edge on their "rival" NTL, who last week announced a similar range of increases. Whilst NTLs pricing appears to be, on the whole cheaper, theirs is a capped service (see our summary table here), whilst Telewest have decided to go the 'uncapped' route.
Of the 4 changes to speed, those opting for the 4Mbit service will also notice a nice little increase in their upload speed too. Historically, upload speeds for the majority of broadband connections is stuck at a lowly 256k - however, with the upgrade 4Mbit'er will find an increase of 50%, upto 384Kbps.

The speed increases will be rolled out to new customers during December '04 and January '05. Nice Christmas present then.
| "This isn't a short-term offer and there are no catches - we're simply giving broadband users what they want, thanks to our advanced cable network. Christmas is a time for giving, so anyone fed up with Scrooge-like behaviour from their ISP knows where to come for faster, unlimited Internet access." |

Telewest's customers (both existing, and we expect quite a few potential) can see the ISPs own words on the matter here.
