NetServices, the company behind providing the infrastructure for failed ISP, Gio Internet have confirmed that its to seek the winding up of the ISP, who reportedly are said to owe NetServices nearly a quarter of a million pounds in unpaid invoices. The move is first subject to a few legal steps, but the final nail in the coffin is expected in the "very near future", a NetServices spokesman confirmed.
Gio Internet have (or had) around 3,000 customers, almost a third of which are somehow currently in "broadband limbo" without any broadband service, having not chosen an alternative supplier after NetServices issued a cessation of Gio's customers connections back last month. One options for these users, as we reported a couple of weeks back, lies in the offer from Hi-Velocity, who were offering Gio customers free migration.

Gio Internet appear to be trying to grab as much short term money as possible in the face of this new winding up order. They have just sent out 'Notices of Debt Collection' - in effect, demanding money with menaces - for immediate payment of alleged 'debts' to former (and apparently mainly disgruntled) customers, via their Debt Collectors, Wescot Credit Services of Hull.
These spurious claims seem to be for alleged failure to pay subscriptions that - certainly in my own case - were cancelled a couple of years ago, after the complete failure of the 'services' purchased to actually allow the customers to set up a functional account and get onto the internet. Trading Standards should certainly be taking this seriously, as it looks like hundreds of people may be involved, many of them worried sick right on the threshhold of Christmas.
If NetServices has now issued a cessation order on Gio Internet, then anyone receiving these demands for payment for non-existant services should get legal advice quickly. Wescot Credit Services are threatening the usual heavy stuff - County Court Orders, bailiffs round to seize property, ruined credit ratings, that sort of agravation - yet if the company is ordered to stop trading what is the position of anyone faced with a spurious demand for cash on the nail? I certainly shall not be paying up - indeed, I'd be quite willing to add my name to the winding up order - I never had any refund for the non-existant service that I paid Gio for in the first place!
Can someone let the Internet Press journalists what is going on - I'm sure they would be pleased to let folk know what they can do to stand up to this bullying.
