Us Brits want broadband, but we don't know what to use it for according to
research by Motorola.
The study in France, Germany, Italy and Spain and well as the UK shows that
we are lagging behind our neighbours in the awareness and usage of new services
such as VoIP and broadband TV.
Although we have one of the largest broadband markets, the majority of users
said that speed was the only reason from switching from dial-up, only 9% said
they switched to get new services such as online movies and chap phone calls.
The compares with 20% of Italians who wanted more than speed.
It gets worse with VoIP, in France over 90% of broadband users know about the
benefits to make calls, while only 17% of Britons do, making it the lowest of
the five countries.
The problem, according to the researchers, is that the UK hasn't seen
the marketing hype regarding new products and services, with companies here
focusing on the speed aspect of broadband.
