Wi-Fi on the up

Wi-Fi

Finally the Wi-Fi phenomena seems to have caught on with wireless provider, iPass, reporting that it has seen a sharp rise in Wi-Fi usage in recent months.

The company reported that it has seen a 54 percent increase in the number of European Wi-Fi access connections initiated by its users between January and June 2006. iPass believes this shows that more firms in Europe are embracing mobile working, and giving their employees the tools to work remotely.

"The main factors [behind the rise in usage] are the proliferation of the technology... wireless cards are now integrated in most laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots are becoming much more ubiquitous, but also the fact that users get more and more confident using the technology based on their experiences connecting to their home wireless LAN or their corporate WLAN."
Ken Greene, director iPass's technical consultancy

The post popular locations where iPass users connect is unsurprisingly airports, with hotels running second.
