There are plenty of 'free broadband' bundle deals out there in internet land,
but how about a 'free PC' deal?
That's what Redten Internet, a sister company of Watford Electronics, is
offering to customers who sign up to it's 8Mbps broadband connection. As will
all things there is a small catch, you have to sign for three years, but as
Watford are a well established are reputable company there is less risk that
signing with a 'start-up' company. But will customers want to sign away their
connection for three years?
The PC offered is a LG model Pentium 4 with a 17in LG LCD monitor (with a
free 19in upgrade for the first 10,000 customers), 160GB hard disk, 512MB of RAM
and Windows XP Media Center Edition. A voucher will be included for a free
upgrade to Windows Vista when it finally arrives. There are also more expensive
monthly packages which include extra hardware such as printers and wireless
routers.
| "There will be a web portal which will have revenue streams - we'll be
selling advertising space on the portal, and also emailing offers to
people from selected companies and partners," |
| Nick Mounfield, marketing manager Redten |
But they insist that customers will not have to watch the adverts as in some
'free PC' deals and can even change their home page away from the Redten site,
to UK-Bug.net for instance.....
The service is planned to will go live this week, but it seems details about
the broadband package are very limited, so it may be best to wait to see what
the exact terms are before siging away 3 years of 'internet life'. You can
register your interest at
www.redteninternet.com.
