Market research firm Gartner has also reponded to Ofcoms price setting measures.
They predict that the cuts will make broadband products based on Datastream more attractive, and this will in turn encourage new players to join the broadband market.
Gartner suggests that the effect of new regulations and proposed pricing structures being implemented early next year will allow existing DataStream and operators using Local Loop Unbundling options to be able to expand their geographical coverage and provide a range of new services.
The recommendations proposed by Gartner once the new system has come into force are:-
Competitors and companies considering entering the market should revisit their business models for providing services either using Datastream or obtaining access to BT's local loops.
Internet service providers should look for new wholesale offerings from alternative providers.
Customers should review their broadband contracts and consider alternative suppliers.
The PDF can be obtained from the Gartner site.
