Wireless hopes for rural broadband

The Department of Trade and Industry has boosting the chances for rural broadband by opening up the 5.8GHz Band C spectrum.

The DTI wants a wide user base, from internet service providers and telcos through to the health and education sectors.

They announced that the spectrum could be used to provide wireless broadband internet access to remote areas not covered by cable or digital subscriber line services.
