NTL copy Telewest, but boost speeds by up to 100%

Hot on the heels of Telewest's announcement earlier today, details have leaked of "rival" cable provider NTL's (see this article on Telewest & NTL possible merger), to offer a similar plan.
Announced in an NTL Press Release, the following chart lists the changes to be made to the existing service offerings.
Proposed new NTL service with tariff
| Current speed |
New speed |
Price per month |
| 150Kbps |
300Kbps |
£17.99 |
| 600Kbps |
750Kbps |
£24.99 |
| 1Mb |
1.5Mb |
£37.99 |
Interestingly, this makes NTL the slightly cheaper option for a 700Kbps service, but these announcements sees both cable providers aligning their prices for their new 1.5Mbps offerings (£37.99 per month). Further its debateable if users would actually notice an increase in real figures on NTLs [new] 750Kbps, as this is only 150Kbps (25%) - but one certainly should'nt look a gift horse in the mouth.
NTL are also the only ISP of the two to increase their 'entry level' package. Telewest's 250Kbps service will remain at 250Kbps - but as can be seen, NTL's 150Kbps provision has been doubled to 300Kbps.
