Plusnet have announced details of a new 512Kbps product priced at an extremely competitive £14.99 per month.
Available from today, the service provides a full 512Kbps download service which appears to be limited only by a 1GB per month download cap. Users who exceed this limit, need not worry that their connection will be shutdown, as additional data-transfer allowance can be purchased at (an estimated) £2.50 per GB. According to a note on the Plusnet web site, this price is yet to be fixed - so we advise potential subscribers who think they might exceed the allocated 1GB per month to check the exact amount charged should they exceed.
Additionally, Plusnet have announced that for a limited period, migration from rival ISPs to this new "Broadband Home Lite" product. will not incur a charge from Plusnet. All that is required is your existing 'CBUK' code - a special code unique to you.
The last couple of months have seen an influx ISPs falling over themselves to offer sub £20 broadband connections, in an attempt to get dialup subscribers to benefit from the features of an always on connection. As a guide, a capped 1GB allowance per month product, works out to around 30MB+ daily.
Now we see a new price barrier - £15 per month for an (almost) unrestricted 512Kbps. Expect others to follow in time..
Its interesting to see that whilst cable ISPs like NTL and Telewest/Blueyonder concentrate on increasing capacity of the connection, ADSL ISPs are still fixated in getting as low as possible price point for what is considered a 'standard' 512Kbps connection. In fairness, this is partly due to the unavailability of more products from BTWholesale.
