With many of the UK's broadband ISPs running capped services (eg Plusnet), and some intending too (eg. BTYahoo), its often interesting to see your bandwidth utilization. Maybe your considering moving to a capped broadband solution so save a few pennies, but unsure about how much bandwidth your really using. You may also be wanting to cross check your ISPs report on your bandwidth usage ? Provided you have a compatible router, UK-Bug has negotiated a great discount for you for Paessler's PRTG Traffic Grapher.
Providing your router supports the management protocol SNMP (without this - this tool will be of no use to you whatsoever - so you can stop reading now) such as the Draytek Vigor or DLink products, PRTG will monitor your router, gather the data and produce an array of pretty graphs for you - just like this - sweet eh ?
PRTG comes in two flavours - a free version, and a Pro version, which as you might expect, offers a little more functionality. Its worth noting however, that the freeware version of PRTG will easily produce detailed graphs and tabulated statistics on your router.
What the Pro version adds, is the ability to monitor more than one aspect of your router simultaneously, plus customisable HTML templates so you can monitor your connection via a browser, no matter where in the world you are. We'd have to say - the Pro version is far more a capable beast than the free option.
Oh, and one final point - its worth noting that PRTG is not limited to ADSL broadband. Cable and other methods are also fine - you just need to have that SNMP ability on your router.
Convinced ? Good - you'll be wanting the download and ordering details then, right ? For the free version : pop over to Paessler's website and download. Simple.
For those looking for the additional functionality, UK-Bug has arranged a special discount of 15% off the normal price, meaning you can get this great piece of software for a little over £23 (although prices will vary, as ordering is in Euro or US Dollars).
To order the Pro version at our special discounted version, visit the ordering page at Paessler's website, and add the 'Professional' version to your shopping cart. Then (carefully!!) enter this code :
PRTG-DI15-3011-SPZE
Boring (but important) bit now : UK-Bug has no affiliate association with Paessler, and any purchase you make is between yourself and Paessler - we cannot get involved.
