As we
hinted at a few days ago here on Bug, BT has announced it's music download
service.
It has signed a deal with media management software firm
Blueprint,
which will enable it to jointly develop a hosting, management and music
distribution service aimed at content providers.
The service is slightly different to most, in that it aims to allow artists,
writers, publishers and record companies, to host their songs, videos, ring
tones and other digital media files, while allowing direct commercial
relationships with retailers who can then to sell content to consumers.
Under the agreement Blueprint will provide the media management software,
while BT will supply the digital content hosting platform.
| "Offering a central, global hosting service also avoids
replicate investment in IT and storage facilities in the supply chain,
and allows for more effective negotiation between retailers and rights
holders." |
| Simon Orme, director of sales and business development, BT

The content is planned to be available to be directly downloaded to a number
of media-enabled devices, including PCs, digital audio players and mobile
phones.
