The Broadband Industry Group (BIG), has released a
report today, which slams BT
and claims that the regulator, Ofcom, has it's work cut out in decreasing the
stranglehold that BT apply over the broadband market.
It claims that BT currently controls 90% of the non-cable broadband market, even
though there has been increasing pressure to bring LLU to the forefront.
"We don't have the luxury of time. Ofcom's intention to revive LLU
(local loop unbundling) and the Strategic Review of Telecoms offer the
prospect of increased competition in the long term. But in the short
term conditions remain tough and we have to resolve the remaining
problems with price and process.
A competitive market has the potential to provide choice and innovation.
Ultimately, a market where BT dominates is a market where consumers and
businesses lose out". |

Wanadoo, Tiscali and Brightview, who have the mandate to bring more
competitiveness to the UK broadband market.
