Hi all, love the site, been looking all over for a solution to my prob here and elsewhere but to no avail.
What it is is that I have 'BT Broadband' with the 'Voyager 100 USB ADSL modem'. Now I have gone and got myself a new comp with 'Server 2003' on it (It's a P.O.S but it's good enough for my learning purposes).
Now I can access the internet not a problem from the Server computer and I can access the other two comps and their printers (Laptop with XP and regular comp with Win 2000) I have in the house without any issues.
But when I try to access the internet from either the laptop or the other comp there is no-go.
I can't get the interal website set up and I can't get access to the internet from either of the 2.
I know it is a 'DHCP' problem of some sort and I've mucked about release IP's and renewing them - Even went as far as using the 'RRAS NAT' service - All to no avail.
I'm thinking the modem wants to do the 'DHCP' thing and so does the server.
See my girlfriend needs to use the web for her teaching materials and I need to use it for my learning things and the whole point of spending money on this server comp was so we each could!!
Can anyone help me find a solution to this?

Could indeed be a DHCP issue ... if your turn the Win2k3 machine off - do the other clients (the Win2k and the XP machines) connect and work OK ?
Have you considered looking at static IP addressing instead of dynamic ?
Failing that .. could'nt you just disable the DHCP server on the Win2k3 machine ? if you want to keep the w3k machine dishing out IPs, then set a static for the 2k3 machine, and disable DHCP on the router.

Bah .. scrub that ... just read its a USB modem .. as opposed to a router.

The easy answer would be to dump the Voyager and get a router.

Can anybody recommend a good router and a brief overview of how to connect it to the server/clients
I'm using wires and don't have the money to go wifi yet (The comps are in 3 seperate rooms) am alittle simple too so any help would be much appreciated!

m0r, I've been thinking about this, and theoretically there's no reason why the w2k3 box should stop your clients from being able to access the 'net. Sure, as Steve said, a router would be the more appropriate solution - but you should be able to get things working as things stand at the moment.
As for not being able to splash the cash on a wireless router, these can cost from about £60 (link - although no comment on the quality of this unit though). However, spending the cash on a decent router would probably yeild better results than getting a cheap wireless adsl router I expect. Of course, you need wi-fi ability in the 3 machines as well (or in 2, plus hard wire one machine).
Back onto your original problem - lets at least see if we can get what you got working eh? keep to one machine when you give info though .. say the XP laptop for example.
When you got the laptop working, what IP info does it have ? (run ipconfig /all from a cmd prompt, and paste the results here). Do the same for the w2k3 server as well.
Can you ping the w2k3 server ?
Do you have software firewalls installed anywhere (disable these, and restart things - see if this helps).

Well revamped it, got a modem/router and have all comps connected to the web and each other.
Cannot get Companyweb (Have patch) and have pulled exchange from Outlook (Just using pop access)

Do your clients have IPs ? Can you ping other machines on the network?

yeap,
the 2003 machine is a DC (running dhcp, dns etc)so it's assigning the IP addresses. this bit all works fine.
I have been told in another forum that it's just not possible to share an ADSL connection on a USB modem, although not sure how true this is.

either disable DHCP service and treat as windows XP machine or setup 2k3 machine as domain controler with DHCP and NAT etc the second option is fully documented in windpows help
