Post subject: TalkTalk ADSL Problems  PostPosted: May 09, 2006 - 05:17 PM

This is a weird one... I hope someone has some suggestions.

If I connect to TalkTalk via their supplied USB modem everything works fine... however if I connect using my own ADSL router (and I've tried this with both the Linksys WAG354G and with a Conexant Dynamode router) I can't get to certain websites. Eg: www.myloupe.com I can get to, but www.alamy.com I can't.

There doesn't appear to be much of a pattern to what I can and can't get to. Eg www.2fields.co.uk is ok, but webmail.2fields.co.uk isn't!

Email isn't working either... at least incoming email isn't if there is email in my mailbox (not a talktalk mailbox) I can't recieve it - outlook just hangs. I can however send email via my SMTP server. Outlook doesn't hang when checking mailboxes with no messages in them!

DNS name resolution is working ok in all cases.

I don't know if this is a red-herring When using the TalkTalk modem I can do a tracert but when using my routers tracert times out at hop 2 (ie at the TalkTalk default gateway).

Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Ian M Butterfield.

I've just tried the websites you're having problems with, and I also cannot connect to them.
My MSN messanger won't connect.
I've submitted a support call, but was told to call their premium rate phone number, on hold for an hour before hanging up... Should I wait this out?

I've sent them a couple more emails.

Oh, and I'm connecting through a NETGEAR DG834GT router, as I type this, very weird that this problem is so selective about websites you can get too. Maybe something to do with SSL? Or Secure servers?

Thanks for replying, folks. While it doesn't bring us any nearer a solution at least I feel loads better knowing I'm not the only one with the problem! (I just wish I could get to my email!)

I can confirm MSN messenger and MSN MySpaces are not accessable for me. Likewise the barclays sites are the same, can get to one but not the other.

Just noticed that www.talktalk.co.uk is also now inaccessible!

Thanks,
Ian M Butterfield

anybody still having trouble this morning? I still cant get onto the sites above, or msn or myspace.com. I might give them a call later and see if they have changed their policy again Razz perhaps they feel they should start filtering offensive sites and programs now as well as p2p etc Wink (barclays bank). One thing that does work though is if you use a proxy service to access these sites, heres mine for example, using a php proxy.

Hi,
Yes, I was still having problems first thing this morning. I've now switched back to my TalkTalk modem which works (but of course only one PC at a time can use it).

FYI there is some useful info about the problem at ADSLguide.org.uk : see http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreade ... o=0&fpart=

Oh and just to rub salt into the wounds I got an auto reply from TalkTalk tech suport:
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are experiencing increased volumes of e-mails, which is affecting our ability to respond as quickly as we would wish.
We will make every effort to answer your e-mail as quickly as possible, however, this may take us up to 7 days. "
I wonder what the chances are that in a weeks time the reply will say "Have you tried switching it off and on again?" Sad

Regards,
Ian M Butterfield.

Just to let folks know that my BB via my router is up and running again. Not sure if it was a fix by TT or the firmware upgrade to my router but I am now able to get to all the site I couldn't.

Thanks,
Ian M Butterfield.

PS. I hope everyone else who had problems is working again too.
