What is the concesus for Efficient/Siemens - I have old BT 5861's running pretty much the default 'maxsec script' that came with it but with a couple of alterations for VPN and Citrix.

I don't have any problems at this level except that for my common use FTP fails a lot even though 20 and 21 are allowed.
Also all P2P fails except Kazaa for some reason even though I specify port 80 which is of course open.

What are y'all using - do you think maxsec is over the top - I back down to minsec if I need to and then up again to max when done with app...

What is the benefit if any of later v5.x firmware - is it more secure/stable? tried the latest 5.3.175 (I think), but not much difference to see from 5.3.80.

If you can, I would run the v6 firmware, and use the statefull firewall, far better.

If yours is a 120-5861-003, you won't have enough flash though, and will need to netboot it...

If its a 060-5861-xxx, try v6 Wink

Yes, old BT style with not enough memory, can't be doing with the requirement to have PC running first! Also leaves open the problem of other family members needing to boot my PC first to get firmware Sad Also don't have the equipment to safely upgrade memory without killing it!

I live in Essex near Chelmsford, but work all around SE England - draw a line between offices in London and Birmingham and I cover up to the join between the two!
Whys that then - do you do upgrades?

I have a bucket load of upgraded ones, but failed PSUs. If you are willing to pick up, you are welcome to one or 2....
