I have recently tried setting up a wireless network with a belkin F5d7632 ADSL2+ modem with wireless G router, but am having problems.
Basically there are intermittent problems with web pages downloading slowly and some pages won't download at all on a PC that is wired to the router, but the problems don't happen on a laptop that connects wirelessly. If I disconnect the belkin router and reconnect my old usb speedtouch 330 modem, then there is noproblem and all pages load fine.
If I connect my laptop to the router with a network wire, this does not suffer the same problem as my main PC.
Belkin think my PC is at fault because the router seems to work fine through the wireless connection, but I don't kow how to begin trouble shooting the PC.
The PC has win XP media centre with SP2. The windows firewall is disabled. I uninstalled adaware and stopzilla, but this made no difference. I am using IE 7 and have also tested with firefox 2, but both suffer the same problems with the exact same sites.
Pinging tests seem to give favourable results. I have tried swappiing the network lead between the router and the PC.
Has anyone got any ideas? |

| Do you get the same problems if you connect the laptop via the wired connection. If two different PC's have the same symptoms then it would look like a problem with the router. |

Hi Steve
If I connect the laptop to the router with a cable instead of wirelessly then this works fine.
In a way I can agree with belkin that the router seems to be OK, but I am baffled about what the problem might be with my main PC. I have used the PC on a peer to peer network without any connection problems, and even through the router, some sites load just fine all the time. I can always get to the router configuration page without any problem, so this leads me to believe that networking is OK. I did run windows network diagnostics and this did not report any problems.
I'm baffled. The only other idea I've got is to try running IE6 instead of 7, but I'm not very hopeful of this making much difference because I've already tried firefox 2. |

I don't think using IE6 would make much difference as you have all but rules out a browser problem by trying Firefox.
One option, not a fix but a way around things, is why not get a USB Wi-Fi adapter for the PC? For a tenner or so it might be easier than trying to sort the problem!! |
