Hi all,

Was going to try to post a reply to a message to UK Broadband Usergroup Forum Index » Usenet syncronisation » BTOpenworld » btopenworld.broadband.support. . .

However when I clicked on "Reply" I was brought to a page that said I was not authorised to post - I would have to be a Moderator to do that"! ! ! Sad

I am not doing anything wrong? particularly as I was logged in? And there are replies from guests! ! !

Evil or Very Mad

Des,
The WebNews portal is in beta at the moment, and coupled with the fact that the usenet sync is of internal ISP usenet groups, posting has been restricted as you have found out.

ISPs block external access to their usenet groups for a reason .. to prevent spam and flame posts (not that I'm suggesting for one second that you would participate in such an activity) .. and so this was another reason for us to prevent posting.

One ISP (not sure if I should say who - but it begins with a "P") has said that we should be able to officially sync with their internal newsgroups - which is a GREAT way forward - and something that I'm not aware has been done before (kudos to the man who knows who he is for arranging this !). I'm not sure if posting rights will be permitted though - we'll have to wait and see.

For the moment at least - the usenet portal will remain read only.
