Can anyone tell me what services/protocols need to be installed/running on a Win2k or WinXP machine to print to a Printer installed on Linux. Question

Also - what services/daemons need to be initiated in Linux to allow people on Windows machines to see and print to its printer????

Cheers for any help Surprised)

I guess just file & printer sharing is all that is needed on the Win32 machine, but you may have to duplicate the Linux username on the Win32 machine.

This shows printing to Linux, and this is to Windows

As Steve said .. its called Samba. Theres quite a few config headaches you can hit .. so google groups can be a great help in this situation in the first instance.

Hi Andy & Steve,

Have just got the gist of installing SuSE by now (7 or 8 installs later BUT with nice new multi Booting!).

I had not yet come across sharing the printer, but knew that the Linux philosophy would be different to windows! Shocked And I didn't want to mess up the networking part of the system just yet! (Install 9 can wait a while yet!)

I have just recently been going through the Linux.org Web Site too so thanks for the link - most useful... Very Happy

Any problems, I'll scream for help!!!

Strange, I managed to set something up! But checking the samba config file shows nothing related to this.
The CUPs file, less so.. But I did manage to see the printer and the shares. Even printed a test page. . .
Since that - Nothing! ! !

Hmmm . . More reading! ! ! Embarassed
