Broadband still on the up

According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) nearly 80 percent of the 16 million internet connections in the UK are connected broadband.

Now while that may sound like a good thing, and compared to five years ago it is, only two percent of those connections are faster than 8Mbps, with a whopping 60 percent still not over the 2Mbps barrier.

At the end of last year (December 2006)figure show that broadband accounted for 79.2 percent of all internet connections which was up from 75.8 percent in September. This is in line with the increasing broadband take-up, back in December 2005 the figure was at 65.2 percent  and in December 2004 it stood at just 43.7 percent.

The full info is in a PDF from the ONS website.
