Best Consumer Broadband ISP, sees last years winner Pipex up again for nomination. In last years awards, Pipex won due to being critical and 'inovative' in the reduction of consumer broadband subscriptions, together with offering a good all round package. Can they do the same again ?
Measurables for the award include the examination of the ISPs time to establish connection to the Internet, and the speed of connection. In this award, only an ISPs 512k/sec connection will be looked at. |
Meanwhile over in the Business Broadband content, there sadly, no nomination for last years winner, Eclipse. Eclipse won last year due the ISPs commitment to value added services such as VPN, an important factor for many businesses.
The winner of the Business Broadband ISP title will have been judged to excelled in similar key areas per the consumer award. In a similar vein to the consumer award, only ISPs 512k offerings will be tested. |

As usual with these events - there's always the 'fun' award, which un-funnily enough has some seriousness behind it. Nominations for the "Internet Villain" of 2003 are ...
Broadband Stakeholders' Group (BSG), "for being beset by a minority of interests,
achieving little with their Government funding and not appropriately representing the true broadband industry"
The Home Office “for the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act and demonstrating a lack of responsiveness to the internet industry’s concerns about data retention.”
Recording Industry Association of America "For threatening to involve a 12 year old girl in a court action"
Derek Wyatt MP “for lowering level of informed debate on the internet generally and spam in particular”
and finally,
Verisign "for their presumption that they own the internet and the domain name system hijacking scandal"
Visit the ISPAs homepage for more information.
