BT have admitted that they were wrong in comparing it's BT Broadband Basic to
Telewest Broadband in a recent poster campaign.
Telewest claim BT seem to have been oblivious to the differences between the
two packages, and the Advertising Standards Authority have agreed with them.
BT claimed in the ads that the BT package that "Same speed broadband is £8
cheaper per month with BT than with Telewest." which at first glance it is, but
Telewest stated this was unfair because the BT Broadband package had a
1GB monthly data allowance, whereas their package had an unlimited data allowance, also BT Broadband customers had to have a BT line and purchase a modem for £50 whereas with
Telewests' package it was all-inclusive.
BT said they had made a mistake and were sorry they had "omitted
references to the additional line rental required for their service and the
modem included in the Telewest package at no extra cost by mistake".
The full adjudication is...you guessed it.... in the
forum!!
