Gio Internet demands money from customers
Posted by: Anonymous on Thursday, December 23, 2004 - 11:36 AM
ISP's [General]

The ongoing saga of Gio Internet has taken a rather nasty turn.

Many punters are receiving debt collection letters from a company called Westcot Credit Services, who claim to be acting for Gio, and are demanding payment for what they call 'unpaid' bills.

Most claim that they do NOT owe any money, and it does seem that everyone who has ever connected to Gio has a letter demanding payment with ten days before they take court proceedings

Figures of up to £492 have mentioned by some very unhappy people, but the most unlucky is one punter who has never used Gio and is being asked for £199.
Hopefully the problems are caused by a billing error and can be resolved.

We would urge everyone effected by this to please be patient, as many indicate that this is the "Great rip off" I can assure you this could not be further from the truth. We have a substantial number of customers who whilst continuing to use our service did not pay any money and in some cases this has gone on in excess of 18 months. You will all be aware of the difficult split from Netservices and it is here that our problems continue. The fact of the matter is that some customers were being billed by netservices and netservices were not keeping us upto date.
So whilst it looks like some of our customers have not paid at all, in reality the multi-billing platform that was endorsed and the root cause of so many issues are still effecting us.
If we as a company have not been informed as to who has paid through netservices or otherwise, then it must be understandable how this occurred, though it is with much regret that it has occurred and another reason why we have moved on from netservices. Since we can operate 100% in-house billing.
I will make an announcement tomorrow once I get some confirmations as to how the company will handle this issue, but please do not worry as we can resolve on an individual basis.

unable to get any reponse, emailed netservices, giointernet, now contacted Watchdog and Trading standards, westcott indicated they think something wrong and froze any further action for 45 days or so i was told, my bill is for £498.75, I also demanded documentary evidence that I owe money to Giointernet from westcott, trouble is my bank statements just show internet services, the bank say it just goes to a merchant bank who are unlikely to give any details as to who the money goes to after them? anybody else have any news?

Wescot have now said they are no longer chasing monies from Gio internet customers and have handed it back to them, anyway the way Wescot credit handled it is a disgrace treating people like criminals and demanding monies that weren't even due.

I'm dam sure there must be something we can ALL do about Wescot debt collecters for being so unprofesional and causing so much stress to people,I had a bill of £119.70p 2 days before christmas,i had to spend 2 hours sifting through bank statements and then arranged for my bank to send Wescot proof that i had indeed payed and owed nothing, surely before Wescot sent THOUSANDS of debt letters out to Gio customers a profesional company would have smelt a rat,I think Wescot are a bunch of crooks,I will be seeking legal advice against Wescot see how they like it,i think i should at least be awarded the costs of two hours and telephone calls.
