PSU problems

So your EN5861 doesn't work and you suspect the dreaded PSU failure. How can you tell?

First off, for the fault to reveal itself, the unit has to be power cycled. Symptoms to look for are:

  • No power light or router activity.
  • Flashing power light.
  • Repeated 'clicking' sound from the router.

So what next? You will have to purchase a replacement PSU from Amperor, they are now the preferred PSU supplier for Efficient.

In the UK they can be ordered through www.amperor.co.uk, or in the US by contacting Marcey Conley at (281) 807-3320 ext.101.
The UK price is £25.00 (including VAT and P&P) and the US price is $25.00 (freight is not paid and sales tax is added for shipment within Texas).

You need to order model number AOF25-3030. For those of you who have an interest, technical details can be found here.

Within a few days a new PSU will arrive!

Before fitting the PSU Unplug the mains cable!!

Remove the 4 screws hidden by the sticky feet to open the case of the router.

The PSU is located to the side of the board, it may look slightly different to your new one as the original boards were made by Tiger Power.

Unplug the 2 connecting cables, these may be tight, but don't pull the wires!! Next undo the four retaining screws and replace the board.

The Tiger Power boards suffer from high temperature output which dries electrolyte in the capacitors, notice the bulging of the capacitors (arrowed).

Replace the screws and cables and finally the cover (remember the feet!)

Job done!! The Amperor PSU's run a lot cooler than the original Tiger ones, so overheating should not be a problem.
